I paint to understand this world and its contradictions. I paint what I know and what I don't know.
The work looks at the distance between people; the way we communicate with our bodies; power dynamics and control; physical signifiers of mental states; the formation and disintegration of relationships. Sex and nudity stand in for emotion and vulnerability.
I'm intrigued by the paint's ability to hover between edible and toxic, reflecting the way relationships can walk the same line. I make objects and paintings that feel warm and fluid, celebrating movement, intimacy, contradiction, and emotional intelligence; inviting people to question existing stereotypes about what it means to be female in today's world. As a woman, I have been expected to be polite, submissive, and beautiful; but life is messy, so I make the work thick and unapologetic.
